Attending a Hanukkah party in the near future, and wondering what to get for other adults? The Jewish Whisky Company may have an answer.
The independent bottler offers collectible quality super-premium single cask and small batch whiskies that you won’t be afraid to crack open and share with friends, and the bottles are even delivered right to your doorstep. The company is the brainchild of two world renowned whisky bloggers and reviewers, Joshua Hatton and Jason Johnstone-Yellin.
“Jewish Whisky Company is faithfully dedicated to bottling the world’s finest, rarest single cask and small batch whiskies for the the diverse members of Single Cask Nation,” said Hatton, the company president. “We take pride in offering our unique whiskies at value prices. We are the perfect antidote to the crazy price inflation that has gripped the whisky industry lately.”
The company appeals both to whisky aficionados and to the Jewish adult drinking market with a unique line of products, a private membership society, festivals, and tours.
Single Cask Nation is a membership society that offers exclusive rights to purchase bottlings selected by the company owners. The company has an excellent track record that includes selecting many casks that have won international medals, and the whiskies are often carried at many of the world’s most notable whisky bars.
“This has got to be the best whisky line-up I have ever tasted. And you can quote me on that!” said Ken McCoy, one of the owners of Ward III in TriBeCa, after trying the company’s Scotch and American Whiskies.
The company’s Whisky Jewbilee festival circuit brings large-scale pouring events to big cities as a means of providing major brands access to the Jewish community while also feeding Single Cask Nation membership. Over the past three years JWC has hosted three wildly successful events in New York City. Building on this success, the company has plans to host Whisky Jewbilee events in more cities moving forward.
Finally, WhiskyGeek Tours are the company’s all-access, VIP distillery tours of Scotland, featuring specialized distillery visits with upper level management of the world’s finest distilleries. There are plans ultimately to expand touring operations to include whisky getaways at resort destinations in the United States, and other whisky themed travel.
The purchase of a Single Cask Nation membership for a friend or relative could make for the perfect Hanukah gift, said partner-owner Seth Klaskin.
“We are at the dawn of a single cask revolution in the whisky industry that is similar to the craft beer revolution that began about 30 years ago,” Klaskin said. “Single Cask Nation members are on the cutting edge of this trend.”
Although nonsectarian and open to all whisky enthusiasts and novices, Single Cask Nation takes care to address the needs of Jewish members who may observe the kashrut (kosher) laws. For example, while operating under the proposition that all whisky is inherently kosher by nature, the company nevertheless is careful to communicate information of interest to the orthodox and observant sub-community among its membership, so that the kosher-observing members can make educated purchase decisions using their own judgment.
