Special Guest Appearances, Advertising Campaign and “Donate the Change” Program Mark Additional New Voter Outreach Efforts
Amid increased efforts to restrict voting rights in states across the country, Amalgamated Bank and Rock the Vote announced today the launch of a new effort aimed at encouraging New Yorkers to register to vote and go to the polls this November.
The bank will provide voter registration forms at each of its 20 New York City branches and is also hosting events on Saturday, October 4th to promote voter registration, with featured guest appearances and musical performances.
“Most banks don’t care whether you vote or not, but we know that our democracy is the strongest when we all make our voices heard,” said Keith Mestrich, President and CEO of Amalgamated Bank. “That’s why we’re thrilled to launch this voter registration effort with Rock the Vote. We hope this exciting campaign will encourage more New Yorkers to exercise their rights and make a difference at the ballot box.”
To further support voter registration efforts, Amalgamated Bank is offering new and existing customers a “Donate the Change” debit card. For every purchase of $10 or more customers make with this debit card from now through January 2015, the bank will donate ten cents to Rock the Vote to support their ongoing voter registration efforts.
“With this commitment from Amalgamated Bank, widespread support for voter registration has never been more apparent,” said Rock the Vote President Ashley Spillane, who encouraged New York City youth to register and come out to the polls on November 4th.
Since its founding in 1923 by the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, Amalgamated Bank has pursued a dual mission of providing affordable, accessible banking and supporting working people and worker-friendly policies. Along with its collaboration with Rock the Vote, Amalgamated Bank is also revealing a new logo and visual identity that will be reflected across all electronic platforms and in many Manhattan bank branches beginning on September 15. The new visual identity reflects the inclusive spirit of Amalgamated Bank and its commitment to providing affordable and accessible banking for all, and the new “weave” logo serves as a visual reminder of the bank’s garment worker founders.
Rock the Vote, the non-profit and non-partisan organization dedicated to building political power for young people, has pioneered ways to make voting easier for young adults for almost 25 years. Recently, Rock the Vote has launched “Protect Voting,” a coalition of more than 100 partner organizations including Planned Parenthood Action Fund, GLAAD, and the National Education Association, and launched an online petition to raise awareness about laws that restrict access to voting and voter registration.
